From the smoky depths of the soil bursts a sweet, scented gift: the leaves of the Tobacco plant glowing bright in the French moonlight. This thick, rebellious absolute lends a sweet, rich, spicy-yet-earthy air to any fragrance blend, bringing with it a thick tapestry of ancient airs, spirited ceremonies, and full moon mediations.
The Aztecs cultivated special Tobacco plants so they could use the fragrant flowers as ceremonial ornaments, while the Native Americans often used Tobacco smoke in lieu of incense. Tobacco is a sacred plant and is said to facilitate communion with the astral planes and the spirit world.
"Absolute oil of Tobacco is derived from various species of Nicotiana. It has a very sweet odor recalling methyl ionone, but is much sweeter, reminding one a little of clove pink. Arctander says that it is close to the scent of phlox, which is so indefinable and which many must often have tried in vain to describe."
~ NPCS Board of Consultants and Engineers, The Complete Technology Book on Flavors, Fragrances and Perfumes
"Tobacco, divine, rare, superexcellent tobacco, which goes far beyond all the panaceas, potable gold, and philosophers' stones, a sovereign cordial to well being ... but it is commonly abused by most men, which take it as tinkers do ale."
~ Robert Burton, 1621
